No doubt you’ve heard the recent news about a live eight-centimeter roundworm from a carpet python invading the brain of a 64-year-old Australian woman.

The Ophidascaris robertsi roundworm was pulled from the patient after brain surgery and is considered to be the world’s first case of a new parasitic infection in humans, discovered by researchers at The Australian National University (ANU) and the Canberra Hospital.

Ophidascaris robertsi roundworms are common to carpet pythons. It typically lives in a python’s esophagus and stomach and sheds its eggs in the snake’s feces.

Major “ick” factor, for sure. But with Australia’s reputation for deadly creatures (including poisonous spiders, snakes and crocodiles), like me, you’re probably relieved not to live in a danger zone.

In the U.S., most of us never consider parasite dangers or the diseases they cause.

But the truth is most citizens of North America have no clue how prevalent these organisms are in their daily life. Physicians completely overlook (or do not know) the possibility that Americans and Canadians experience parasitic infections, too.

So, if you think you have to live in a tropical or sub-tropical region to encounter a parasite, you’d be wrong…

Parasites are bad news and getting worse

A parasitic infection can lead to seizures, blindness, pregnancy complications, heart failure, and even death.

In the United States alone, more than 40 million people are chronically infected with toxoplasma gondii (found in the feces of cats, undercooked meat, and unwashed vegetables). That’s just one of many parasites the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued warnings on.

A parasite is an organism that gets nourishment from or at the expense of the host. As they siphon off nutrients, mild symptoms can go unnoticed at first.  When a patient begins to wonder about their declining health or energy, they’re often misdiagnosed or ignored by doctors unless they’ve traveled recently.

The Australian woman was first admitted to a local hospital in late January 2021 after suffering three weeks of abdominal pain and diarrhea, followed by a constant dry cough, fever and night sweats. But it wasn’t until 2022, when she began experiencing forgetfulness and depression that doctors ordered an MRI and found and removed her stowaway, luckily before it could do more damage.

In National Geographic’s award-winning documentary, Body Snatchers, they reported, “Parasites have killed more humans than all the wars in history.

Parasites are probably the most diverse of all biological forms and yet, by definition, remain implacably hostile to humans. Of the 7.8 billion acres of potential arable land on Earth, only 3.4 billion acres can be farmed. Most of the rest cannot be developed because of parasitic infections such as malaria, trypanosomiasis, schistosomiasis, and onchocerciasis.

In other words, less than half the farmable land is available because of parasitic infestation. In Africa alone, an area the size of the United States cannot be farmed because of trypanosomes (blood parasites). Many millions in South America have never experienced a healthy day in their lives because of these unicellular parasitic protozoa.

Domestic animals and cattle die quickly upon contracting them. Humans may survive but trypanosomes invade every organ and tissue in the body. They have a special attraction to your lymphatic system and brain, with disastrous consequences (sleeping sickness).

Parasites are everywhere

With the ease of international travel, the danger of parasite exposure has exploded. They’ve been able to spread rapidly and uncontrolled across every land mass on Earth. When a new parasite invades a population where there is low or zero natural immunity, the results can be catastrophic.

Parasites are some of the most successful and abundant creatures on the planet. Malaria remains the number one killer infection in the world. It is classified as a parasitic disease.

It has been said that one group (nematodes or roundworms) are so plentiful that if everything on Earth was removed except them, you’d still be able to see the shape of the hills, the animals, trees, and humans!

They are everywhere. In the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink. Every single living organism is susceptible to invasion. Even bacteria have parasites!

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 3.5 billion people are infected with some type of parasite. The world population is 8 billion, which translates to almost 50% of the people on the planet being infected. In actuality, the infection rate is likely much higher.  Most people simply aren’t aware that they’re hosting a parasite.

What parasites do to your health

Where the immune system is strong, the infected host generally remains well. However, if overall immunity is compromised, these infestations can be a source of serious symptoms.

Most parasites do not kill their host outright (it’s not in their best interest) but they can make life difficult and painful while keeping you alive.

Severe allergic reactions may manifest, where the cause is not obvious unless diligently searched out. Fatal anaphylaxis has been documented. Competition for nutrients from parasites will inevitably lead to micro- and macro-nutrient deficiency. This in turn can lead to chronic health problems from compromised immunity.

All of this raises your risk of succumbing to a disease not related to parasitic infection – yet caused by it all the same. Parasites must be part of the clinical ecology picture. This is not a sick body problem but a healthy body being damaged by extraneous factors. Parasites are just another type of toxic body burden. One we cannot afford to ignore anymore.

Parasites, even when present in significant numbers, may not be the sole cause of the patient’s problems but merely a contributive overload factor. Here’s a list of the most common parasitic infections and their side effects:

  • Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by a parasite (Trichomonas vaginalis) that often produces no symptoms. May cause itching, redness, irritation, and an unusual discharge in your genital area.
  • Giardiasis is an intestinal infection (from a parasite called Giardia lamblia) that can lead to diarrhea, gas, upset stomach, greasy stools, and dehydration.
  • Cryptosporidiosis is another intestinal infection (from the parasite Cryptosporidium) that causes stomach cramps, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, dehydration, weight loss, and fever.
  • Toxoplasmosis is one of the world’s most common and easily transmitted parasitic infections (Toxoplasma gondii) that mimics flu-like symptoms such as swollen lymph nodes, fever, and muscle aches or pains that can last for over a month.

Per cancer.org, some parasites can even raise the risks of certain cancers. These parasitic worms are not found in the U.S., but anyone who travels frequently should be aware of them:

  • Opisthorchis viverrini and Clonorchis sinensis are liver flukes (a type of flatworm) that have been linked to the risk of developing cancer of the bile ducts. These infections come from eating raw or undercooked freshwater fish.
  • Schistosoma haematobium is a parasite found in the water of some countries in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Infection with this parasite (an illness called schistosomiasis) has been linked to bladder cancer.

How do you know if you’re affected?

Could the dangers of parasite invasion be affecting you? You should suspect parasites if you regularly experience tiredness, listlessness, loss of appetite, irritability, insomnia, vague aches and pains (not confined to bowel), swings in bowel habit, flatulence, inappropriate hunger, skin rashes, itching anus or itching ears.

The good news is that most of these parasitic infections can be prevented and many are treatable. However, these infections often go undetected and untreated.

Most people don’t know they’re infected, at risk, or may not have access to appropriate care.  Healthcare providers (particularly in developed countries) are unfamiliar with parasitic infections, don’t consider them as a probable cause, and may not diagnose or treat them appropriately.  There is a limited understanding of how many are infected or who is at risk.

Parasites are transmitted in a number of ways…

  • Domesticated pets
  • Infected water
  • Raw (unpasteurized) milk
  • Uncooked or undercooked foods
  • Other humans who are infected
  • Insect populations (such as mosquitoes)
  • Animal populations (such as pigs, cattle, and even raccoons)
  • Ectoparasites (ticks and fleas)

As you can see from transmission, many of these sources of parasitic exposure are controllable, preventable, or avoidable entirely.

Filtering water, preparing food properly, safe sexual practices, controlling exposure to insects and external parasites (ticks and fleas), and simple hand washing can help you avoid the dangers of parasites in many cases.

If you suspect a parasitic infection, speak to your doctor about testing and treatment. If you don’t bring it up (and live in a developed nation), it will likely not occur to him/her to check!

Thiamin protects kidneys

In a study conducted by the Warwick Medical School in the UK, thiamine (known universally as vitamin B1) was found to slow, protect, and reverse kidney damage in the early stages! Professor Paul J. Thornalley and Dr. Naila Rabbani, who led the study at Warwick, published their results in the Diabetologia medical journal.

Diabetic nephropathy results in high emission of a protein in the urine called albumin. Patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes were given high doses of vitamin B1 and showed a dramatic reduction of more than forty percent in the excretion of albumin! 35% of participants returned to normal urinary levels of the protein by the end of the investigation.

A prior study from Professor Thornalley’s team proved conclusively that type 2 diabetics suffer from thiamine deficiency, which may be the source of multiple vascular issues.

In the trial, forty subjects were given either a placebo or 300mg of thiamine daily over three months with fascinating results. Vascular dysfunction and albumin readings were greatly improved for those who received B1.

“This study once again highlights the importance of vitamin B1 and we need to increase awareness. [We] are planning a foundation at the University of Warwick to further education and research in thiamine deficiency,” noted Dr. Rabbani.

The American Diabetes Association released data that diabetics account for almost half of the kidney failure cases diagnosed each year. It is known to be one of the leading causes of kidney failure.

At this point, every person on the planet should be aware of the dangers of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). This stuff is toxic and added to far too many manufactured and fast foods to ever list.

  • The food industry says HFCS is safe.
  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says HFCS is safe.

Those are lies and you should not believe them.

As for your doctor, when was the last time he or she questioned what you normally eat or drink before prescribing a medication? Chances are, they never ask! That’s because they know next to nothing — and refuse to learn — about the short-term and long-term effects of processed food on human health.

It’s almost as if they don’t think it’s their problem!

Funny enough, the dismal state of our food supply is probably the main reason most doctors are in business in the first place. After all, explosions in diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and cancer coincide with the bogus medical claims that high-fructose corn syrup was the same as “regular” corn and hydrogenated oils were better than “full fat” butters and lards.

More lies that have had a detrimental impact on the health of millions — if not billions, all told — of people around the world.

Numerous studies have shown that fructose is horrific for your liver, your heart, and your reproductive system… and yet, it’s being used more, not less, in our food supply.

Conservative estimates state that the U.S. population consumes 17 teaspoons of sugar daily — which equates to almost 60 pounds of sugar every year. Others put that number much, much higher — to 130 pounds of sugar consumption annually.

It should come as no surprise that most of that sugar is delivered through the beverages we drink. The Diabetes Council published the following breakdown:

  • Fancy Coffee (16 ounces): 12-44 grams of added sugar
  • Bottled Teas (20 ounces): 18-33 grams of added sugar
  • Soda (12 ounces): 35-37 grams of added sugar
  • Sports Drinks (20 ounces): 8-40 grams of added sugar
  • Energy Drinks (20 ounces): 38-62 grams of added sugar
  • Bottled Smoothies (15 ounces): 40-80 grams of added sugar

To put this list into perspective, understand that 4.2 grams of sugar is equal to one teaspoon. Now, these statistics are terrible. Make no mistake: all sugars are bad for you if you eat or drink too much.

The dangers of high-fructose corn syrup are many times worse for your body than “regular” sugar. HFCS and cane sugar are NOT biochemically identical or processed the same way by your body.

High-fructose corn syrup is an industrial food product and far cry from the “natural” label claimed for it. In fact, it’s prepared by a secret formula — that the food industry will not reveal (even to government agencies or health workers).

Unlike glucose, which is nature’s real sugar, fructose goes straight to the liver and triggers fat production (lipogenesis). We are now seeing an explosion of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) which can lead to deadly cirrhosis (which claims almost 90,000 lives in the U.S. every year).

Approximately 100 million Americans have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease right now, according to the American Liver Foundation. This epidemic is easily traceable to the massive rise in fructose intake that has been forced on us — without our consent — through our diet by the food industry.

The damage doesn’t stop at your liver. Dangers of high-fructose corn syrup leads to several metabolic disturbances that drive increases in appetite, weight gain, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, dementia, and much more.

Why you crave what hurts you

  1. Fructose is much sweeter than normal sugar. Every time you eat it, you’re training your body and brain to demand more. It’s a simple path to addiction and that’s exactly what food manufacturers want.
  2. Fructose does not trigger the normal satisfaction hormones leptin and insulin. In other words, there’s nothing to tell you that you’ve had enough.

Researchers in many of the studies cited here have proven that removing the dangers of high-fructose corn syrup from the diet reduces fatty liver, metabolic disorders, obesity, diabetes, and more.

No one needs this much sugar

The importance of starting early to limit sugar intake cannot be overstated. Because HFCS is found in so many manufactured foods, it’s not always clear how much we’re actually consuming.

It’s not easy to eliminate HFCS from your diet entirely. It’s added to foods you would assume (like soda and candy) but also appears in foods you wouldn’t suspect (like salad dressing, bread, and boxed or frozen meals). They aren’t “sweet” so you might not think they contain high-fructose corn syrup.

Unfortunately, so many do.

Children exposed to these quantities actually change at the cellular level. Forty kids were evaluated by researchers at Touro University California in Vallejo. The findings were presented at The Endocrine Society 2015 annual meeting.

Researchers wanted to see if changes in diet would have an impact on both hepatic lipogenesis and total concentrations of fat in the liver. Lead author of the study, Jean-Marc Schwarz, Ph.D., likened ingesting fruit drinks or sodas laced with HFCS to a “tsunami” in the liver, forcing it to produce more fat.

The team recruited 25 Latino children (15 girls, 11 boys) and 15 African-American children (12 girls, three boys) with a median age of 13. The median fat percentage was 47.3 percent — youngsters considered obese by medical biomarkers.

Throughout the 10-day trial, patients were fed meals that contained the same relative energy and macronutrient content of their normal diet. However, high-fructose products were replaced with vegetables, breads, or pasta that did not contain HFCS.

The improvement was immediate, substantial, and unarguable: the conversion of sugar to fat dropped by 53 percent and total liver fat dropped by a massive 20 percent — in just 10 days!

Schwarz acknowledged that the study was short, but pointed out that it was “an intervention that goes on beyond just correlation. We saw that in 10 days, there was this dramatic change that suggests benefits for cardiovascular disease.”

There was no weight loss but the drop in fat in the liver was practically a miracle.

Another takeaway from this study is that researchers were able to find a bunch of 12 and 13-year-olds with fatty liver! That’s a terrible foreshadowing of health in ten or twenty more years.

Not the same: Fructose in fruit

I’m asked all the time about fructose in fruit. Let me be clear: eating fruit is not a bad thing! If you eat a handful of grapes or an apple, you’re going to be fine. Even if you do this a couple of times a day.

The enemy is HFCS. It is fortified concentrated fructose — a perverted manufacturing process with no balancing nutrients.

The dangers of high-fructose corn syrup in your diet is one of the single worst ways you can destroy your liver… forcing it to produce more fat.

We have thousands of body clocks and bio-rhythms. Scientists believe that learning to control them will solve problems from jet lag to weight loss. We now have a field called chronobiology (time and biology) and a spinoff called chrononutrition (that combines bio-rhythms and nutrition).

Not so long ago we thought that the body clock was a one-off control mechanism, housed somewhere in the brain. No longer. We now know our bodies contain thousands, if not millions, of independent clocks that subtly control the functioning of our tissues and organs from the brain and heart to the lungs and liver.

These clocks mean that not only are there benefits to eating regularly but that different parts of the body are tuned to work optimally at certain times of the day. When these clocks fall out of sync it can have serious consequences.

The history of circadian rhythms

(Mairan, incidentally, lived to the great age of 92).

The word circadian comes from the Latin circa diem (meaning “about a day”).

Eventually in the 1970s researchers looking for the seat of biological rhythms in mammals figured out that a small part of the hypothalamus directly behind the orbit, tracked light and dark signals coming in from the eye to keep the body in time with day and night. These areas send signals around the brain and body to control things such as hormone release, the regulation of body temperature and appetite.

It was many more years before gene studies revealed the startling fact that this clock isn’t the only one. In fact, “The functional activity of almost half of mammalian genes varies regularly with time,” said John Hogenesch of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

In 2014, he published an atlas of these so-called “circadian genes” across 12 organs in mice, showing how the heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, skin and fat cells, among others, function over the course of a day.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was that the outside signals controlling the timing of this frenetic genetic activity didn’t necessarily come from the brain.

“Put a liver cell in a petri dish and it very happily ticks along at its rhythm of about 24 hours,” says neuroscientist Frank Scheer of Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.

According to Jonathan Johnston at the University of Surrey in Guildford, UK, the idea of a single “body clock” is clearly wrong. It’s now obvious that the human body has a complex network of thousands or millions of clocks all over the body, all doing their own thing and all of which have to talk to each other and synchronize with each other.

Body rhythms, nutrition, and weight control

In 2000, a seminal paper revealed that, in mice, you could uncouple the peripheral clocks from the central pacemaker simply by changing the time at which they ate. If the mice could only eat during the day when they are usually asleep, their peripheral clocks shifted by 12 hours, but the central, light-activated brain clock remained the same. The liver was the fastest to adapt, taking three to four days, but after a week the heart, kidney, and pancreas had shifted too.

But it was even more interesting than that: the mice that had their eating times disturbed, or their core clock genes disabled, were more likely to gain weight and acquire fatty livers. This has awesome inference for dieting and weight loss!

Think about it! You eat food at a certain time of day and gain weight. Eat the same thing at a different time and nothing happens. You remain steady! A cheeseburger in the morning is one thing; late at night, it could be wicked in its effects.

The bad news is that studies show that adults who eat their meals at irregular times have a greatly increased risk of metabolic syndrome, which includes cardiovascular problems and diabetes decades later.

And it’s not just about metabolism. For instance, the heart experiences a burst of activity first thing as our bodies prepare for the rigors of the day, as do other organs. We are also privy to a surge of the stress hormone cortisol in this pre-dawn rush hour, which may explain why things like heart attacks are so common first thing in the morning.

Taken together, the findings not only cast longevity in a new light, but may also explain the higher prevalence of conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular problems among regular night workers.

Let’s talk about chrononutrition: Bio-rhythms and nutrition intake

Created in 1986 by French nutritionist Dr. Alain Delabos, chrononutrition is more than just a diet: it’s a whole new way of eating that follows the body’s natural rhythm and enzymatic secretions.

You eat foods at times of the day when they are most useful, to meet your body’s energy requirements and prevent the storage of food as fat in certain parts of the body.

According to Dr. Delabos, humans’ natural ancestral needs are predetermined in the body. The body secretes different substances (enzymes and hormones) to break down the different types of food we eat, in a scheduled and organized way.

Chrononutrition works by calculating the body’s enzyme secretions and works out what foods to eat at certain times and what to cut out at other times. There are no forbidden foods, no calorie counting, and no fat or sugar control.

You lose weight the French way: without deprivation!

The chrononutrition method emphasizes breakfast and lunch, which tend to be neglected. Lunch and dinner should consist of a single dish. Wine and desserts are allowed twice a week (two cheat meals, that is, not two cheat days).

In other words, eat more earlier, and less later in the day.

I happen to have a friend who’s passionate about chrononutrition and they shared a basic outline of what a day’s worth of meals looks like…

A Big Breakfast

  • What To Eat: Breakfast should be hearty and include fat! 5 oz. (100g) cheese or ham, 2.5 oz. (70g) bread, 3/4 oz. (20g) butter, and a hot drink without milk or sugar. Black coffee and a ham and cheese croissant would be just perfect!
  • Why: Every morning the body secretes 3 key substances: insulin – to receive sugar the organs need to function from the moment we wake; lipases – to metabolize fats used for the production of cell walls; and proteases – to metabolize proteins used to produce cell content. The benefits of vitamin B12 are real (and no one seems to want you to know about them). To be fair, it isn’t just B12. It’s all vitamins, supplements and natural therapies (especially if they’re proven to work better than the manufactured, high-price tagged drug options).

Pharmaceutical companies don’t want you to find any “natural” solutions to drugs they earn billions selling to you (over the counter and prescription) so for two decades, they’ve spent a lot of money (and time) trashing anything that offers natural, alternative or holistic choices instead of their snake oils.

They are not the only ones who turn up their noses.  In 2013, JAMA Annals of Internal Medicine (that’s right — the official journal for the American Medical Association) published an article titled “Enough is Enough: Stop Wasting Money On Vitamin and Mineral Supplements.”

The report claimed, “Despite no evidence of any clinical benefits, dietary supplement use is increasingly common among older adults, with almost a 50 percent increase in the use of multiple supplements.” They simply IGNORE the mountains of science — which continue to grow by the day — that this is simply not true.

There have been no deaths from suggested vitamin or supplement use. However, according to research released by Johns Hopkins University, in the USA alone, over 250,000 people are killed every year by medical incompetence. In other words, JAMA is defending a system that kills against one that doesn’t. In what world does that make sense?

The benefits of vitamin B12 — cooler than you think!

Back to what I wanted to talk to you about… supplementation of vitamin B12. There are lots of reasons you should top up on B12 shots. The most important being it’s the best way for your body to absorb it. Trying to take a B12 pill can be an uphill battle because your body doesn’t absorb it well in oral form. Sublingual (melts) are preferable for oral intake, however. And you could opt for raw liver (yuck!), but most people report immediate benefits with shots.

You need 1,000 mcg (1 mg) monthly. I usually recommend that my patients start at 1,000 mcg weekly for the first month. What’s special about vitamin B12?

B12 is vital for continued healthful brain function. The latest research from the Karolinska Institute shows two important factors are connected with brain shrinkage: low B12 and our old enemy homocysteine.

“Vitamin B12 and total homocysteine might be independent predictors of brain aging in elderly individuals without dementia,” the investigators write.

Individuals with increased levels of circulating homocysteine have faster rates of brain changes associated with aging than other people, whereas higher levels of vitamin B12 are associated with slower rates of brain aging.

This is logical because vitamins B12, B6, and folic acid are known to tone down the highly inflammatory metabolite, homocysteine.

The researchers examined data on 501 participants aged 60 years and older from the Swedish National Study on Aging and Care, in Kungsholmen. All participants were free of dementia at baseline. Of these, 299 underwent repeated structural brain MRI between 2001 and 2009.

Between baseline and the 6-year follow-up, the mean total brain tissue volume decreased from 74.3 percent to 71.6 percent of the total cranial volume (3.6 percent). That’s the mean, so we are all in for that. But of course, those of us who are careful fall well below the mean. More about protecting yourself in just a moment.

The strong plus point of the Karolinska study is that it’s longitudinal, meaning not just messing around with statistics and numbers but following a population of many years, to see what actually happens.

Normal studies may show certain correlations but that doesn’t mean causation. Moreover, you can use “correlation” to tell any number of lies. For example, the Journal of The American Association (JAMA) recently tried to blame the rise in fish oil supplements for the increase in bleeding emergencies at ER.

In fact, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), a component of fish oil, reduces arterial calcification (stiffness) induced by vitamin K depletion caused by the drug warfarin. Furthermore, concomitant use of fish oil with blood-thinning drugs also is documented to reduce the risk for drug-induced gastrointestinal injury. The truth is warfarin is one of the most dangerous drugs out there and is the number one drug emergency admission to ER.

Doctors should very carefully monitor a patient’s dietary and supplement habits and reduce their crap, not blame nature’s own wonderful healing omega-3s.

Not the only study promoting the benefits of B12

In case you are wondering, this is not really “new” finding. Only the study method was new. Researchers have done a meticulous job of documenting the progressive shrinkage (atrophy) of the human brain with advancing age, a process that is slowed by the provision of vitamin B12 supplements.

By the way, the importance of vitamin B12 cure for this problem does not work without co-consumption of fish oil or other excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids such as walnuts, flax oil, and grass-fed beef.

So there is your regimen: B12 is not so good without omega-3s. Omega-3s alone are not enough, you also need the B12.

A side note: You need omega-3s so eat fish at least twice a week. Lack of omega-3s will kill you faster than mercury from the sea bottom. Do what you can to get the least contaminated seafood (wild-caught — never, ever farmed) and you can purchase fish oil with toxic metals removed. Otherwise, eat grass-fed beef (which is the RICHEST source of omega-3s).

The final word…

You must not let yourself get deficient in vitamin B12 — your brain needs it! You’ll feel a lot better with proper supplementation. My patients have also mentioned that one benefit of B12 is a pleasant “buzz” immediately following their shot and lots of energy.

  • B12 is necessary for the formation and maturation of red blood cells
  • B12 is necessary for the synthesis of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) — the genetic material of cells.
  • B12 is also necessary for normal nerve function.

Now you know! Don’t listen to the vitamin haters… when in doubt, use common sense and trust nature!

The forward-thinking nurse

Florence Nightingale slashed hospital death rates with a host of hygiene improvements – including throwing open the windows. She once stated, “What nursing has to do… is to put the patient in the best condition for nature to act upon him.”

She stated that the purpose of nursing “ought to signify the proper use of fresh air, light, warmth, cleanliness, quiet, and the proper selection and administration of diet – all at the least expense of vital power to the patient.”

Less well known is that Nightingale Wards (as they came to be known) were designed with their long sides south-facing to let in plenty of natural sunlight.

Soon the health benefits of sunshine became more widely recognized, particularly for people with tuberculosis (also referred to as consumption), which in Victorian times caused around one in five deaths in our crowded cities.

Sunlight not only kills airborne bacteria and those on the skin, but also seems to kill TB microbes inside the body. This is credited to boosting vitamin D production, which has powerful effects on the immune system.

By the turn of the 19th century “solar clinics” were in vogue, utilizing fresh air and sunshine as part of TB treatment. Hospital beds were wheeled to balconies or conservatories with special glazing that allowed ultraviolet light to pass through.

The science behind fresh air and sunshine

One modern era study examined 9,739 tuberculosis cases from 1981 to 2009 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The results were published in the PLoS One journal. There was strong evidence for seasonality. Winter dips in sunshine correlated with peaks in tuberculosis incidence six months later (4.7% increase in incidence for each 100 hours decrease in sunshine).

There’s an interesting report in New Scientist about two experimenters at the Porton Down defense facility in the United Kingdom (for those of you living outside the UK, this is a well-known bio-warfare site)…

Microbiologists Henry Druett and K. R. May speculated what would happen if deadly pathogens were exploded over a major city: how long would the microbes remain viable?

To find out, they exposed E. coli to fresh air and were astonished that all viable microbes were dead within 2 hours, while controls kept in boxes at identical temperature and humidity largely survived.

Florence Nightingale was right!

Open windows not only diluted pathogens but also destroyed them. The term “fresh air factor” was so named. It’s the newest-oldest antibiotic!

The benefits of sunshine are no mystery either. We know it boosts vitamin D levels and that alone will strengthen your immune system in the fight against foreign invaders.

Cheap, effective, and out of favor

These remedies fell out of favor due to the rise of antibiotics and their manifest success in conquering infections. Moreover, in the 1970s, energy conservation became a big issue. Open windows and circulating air are the kiss of death to economic heating.

Everything was sealed up. We entered the era of “sick building syndrome.” Filtered air is deadly because it circulates pathogens in an unnatural and dangerous degree. As we get more and more crowded together in our cities and buildings, the dangers increase.

Chinese college students who slept in poorly ventilated dorm rooms got 35% more colds and infections over the course of a year, compared with 5% in rooms that were better ventilated.

That’s a 7-fold decrease in pathogenic activity. It’s time to go back to the old ways because they worked – that’s scientifically proven!

The fresh air/sunshine factor “modern edition”

The answer is hydroxyl radicals. These short-lived molecules are constantly produced in the atmosphere through reactions between ozone and water, catalyzed by airborne organic chemicals from plants.

They kill bacteria but are (relatively) harmless to humans. It’s possible to produce them synthetically and I expect devices of this type will be widely available commercially, as the failure of antibiotics looms larger and larger.

We know that UV light is antiseptic, but it is also supposedly dangerous. Drenching kids with UV light to boost their vitamin D levels was fashionable when I was a kid but soon went out of favor, as it was realized that UVB damages skin. Now we even worry about UVA.

The most useful wavelength is 207 nm. At this wavelength, the UV is absorbed by protein molecules and therefore penetrates only a short way into human cells. It does not reach the DNA to cause mutations.

Microbes, on the other hand, are so much smaller than human cells that they completely absorb the light and are zapped. A lamp has been developed that emits only UV at 207 nm. Studies on cells grown in the lab have shown that this narrow band does not harm human skin tissue cultures yet kills bacteria, including MRSA.

The future depends on alternatives to pharmaceutical antibiotics

It pays to learn from the heroes of the past. Florence Nightingale slashed the death rate in the hospital where she worked during the Crimean War. Until she came along, soldiers were more likely to die of “hospital” than they were of dying of wounds on the battlefield!

It’s like today, when patients are very likely to catch a dangerous infection when they go to hospital. Per the World Health Organization (WHO):

  • Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) are the most frequent adverse event in health-care delivery worldwide.
  • Hundreds of millions of patients are affected by HAIs worldwide each year, leading to significant mortality and financial losses for health systems.
  • Of every 100 hospitalized patients, 7 in developed and 10 in developing countries will acquire at least one HAI.

WHO’s report urges all healthcare settings to use natural ventilation whenever possible. They even reference Florence Nightingale!

Murder by arrogance and ignorance

If you think that’s an exaggeration, I assure you, it’s an understatement.  According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 17.7 million people die globally from heart disease every year.  It is the number one cause of death in the world.

Here’s an excerpt from an article published in The American Journal of Medicine that explains the wide-ranging epidemic this has become.  “Heart disease was an uncommon cause of death in the US at the beginning of the 20th century.  By mid-century, it had become the commonest cause.  This increase was associated with an increase in smoking and dietary changes leading to an increase in serum cholesterol levels.  It is very likely that the 20th century was the only century in which heart disease was the most common cause of death in America.”

They go on to point out that more people survive heart events now because of technological advances made in testing and treatment.  However, it should be noted that more people are getting heart disease now than ever before.

Heart disease as we know it since the early 20th century did not exist prior to the introduction of artificial fats – even though the average diet consisted of whole milk, butter, cheese, cream, and curds.  Food was cooked in pure animal fat.

The benefits of healthy fats were working but they didn’t know it then!

How did this happen?

The Center for Science in Public Interest explains how it came about.  “Artificial trans-fat dates back to the early 1900s.  German chemist Wilhelm Normann found that liquid vegetable or fish oils could be treated with hydrogen gas to make them solid or semi-solid.  Versatile, long-lasting, and cheaper than animal fats such as butter, beef tallow, or lard, partially hydrogenated oils quickly became popular in the form of margarine, shortening, and frying oils.”

Naturally, they were perceived as “safe” for many, many decades.

It wasn’t until the 1970s and 1980s that scientists started to point out the harmful long-term effects of these unhealthy “fake” fats on the human body.  Some saturated fats raise both LDL “bad” cholesterol and HDL “good” cholesterol.  Hydrogenated oils raise the “bad” and lower the “good” cholesterol.  It’s a double threat!

What happened then?  I’m sure you can guess!

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioned their own people to counter the rapidly growing dissent that these oils were harmful (their results were presented in 1976 and again in 1985).

The line was firmly drawn and scientists or doctors who dared to question this firmly held belief that hydrogenated oils were harmful to human health were mocked and discredited.

It is no coincidence that the first statin drugs to artificially and dangerously lower cholesterol raised by hydrogenated fats was introduced around this time.  Merck Pharmaceuticals received FDA approval for statin drug Lovastatin in September of 1987.

They created the problem, allowed the problem to continue, and then approved a drug to falsely “fix” the problem, which then led to far more problems!

The truth was too big to stop.  By the 1990s, there was too much evidence proving that trans-fats caused heart disease.

The real problem

Nutritional scientist Fred Kummerow has been pointing out the dangers of trans-fats since 1957!  Dr. Kummerow filed a citizen petition with the FDA in August of 2009 to have trans-fats banned, based on the scientific evidence of harm.  The agency is legally required to respond within 180 days.  Four years later, no response had been issued, so Dr. Kummerow resorted to suing the agency.

However, it was not until 2015 that the FDA changed their stance.  From the official FDA website: “In 2015, FDA released its final determination that Partially Hydrogenated Oils (PHOs) are not Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS).  The determination is based on extensive research into the effects of PHOs.  PHOs are the primary dietary source of artificial trans-fat in processed foods.  Removing PHOs from processed foods could prevent thousands of heart attacks and deaths each year.”

No kidding.  We knew that.  We tried to tell you that.

They’ve extended the deadlines repeatedly for manufacturers to remove trans-fats from their products (I believe it’s up to 2021 now).  Make no mistake!  That doesn’t mean there won’t be any more trans-fats in your food!  They simply limit how much is allowed per serving.

From WebMD: “A food that promises to be trans-fat free may in fact contain up to 0.5 grams of partially hydrogenated oils, a source of trans-fats, in the ingredient list.”

Do you know the food manufacturer’s response to this requirement?  Make the serving sizes smaller.  You might have noticed that many of your favorite snacks have gotten smaller.  Now you know why.  So the trans-fats are still there but there is technically less “per serving” – meaning if you eat more (equal to what you used to consume) then nothing has changed at all.

There are all sorts of “tricks” food manufacturers use to get their disgusting garbage ingredients into your food without you noticing.

  • Soy is referred to by about 75 different names.
  • Sugar is listed by about 35 different names.
  • Milk has close to 100 alternate names.

Facts about the benefits of healthy fats

  • The Inuit population consistently consumed a diet made up of 50% healthy fats for generations. Instances of cancer and heart disease were rare in their communities until they started consuming the Western Diet filled with garbage that broke their bodies down.
  • Your body cannot absorb or utilize essential fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, or K without enough fat in your diet.
  • High-fat, low-carbohydrate diets have worked for two decades at helping people shed unwanted or dangerous body weight. The supposed “experts” say this is dangerous but have zero data to back that up.

Your body requires the benefits of healthy fats.  Your brain (in particular) is made of 25 percent cholesterol.  Does that make you wonder about the epidemic of dementia?

The mainstream medical community and pharmaceutical criminals stripped our diet of every healthy fat benefit we need to function in the form of animal fats, avocados, coconut oil, and eggs (to name a few).  Our bodies and health have not fared well!

Fat was made the villain for decades to sell garbage fake foods and then sell the drugs to counter what they did to the health of our hearts.  The science was there all along.  This wasn’t a “mistake” or an “oversight” that can be explained away.

Because they are still preaching (and screeching) that FATS ARE BAD FOR YOU.

Even now, right now, in the aftermath of the trans-fat explosion, to suggest that the benefits of healthy fats are good your entire body is considered heresy.

This is why it is more critical than ever for you to research and learn for yourself about health and nutrition. No government agency is going to protect you from the lies and cunning of the food industry or the pharmaceutical companies that control so much in Washington!

The bottom line: eat the healthy fats

Enjoy avocados and the entire fresh egg. Cook in coconut oil or find lard and cook in that.  Collect your own lard from roast meats (never chicken).  Dump all margarine and hydrogenated oils. Get back to real butter!

Your body needs the benefits of healthy fats and your brain craves it. Your heart is going to be just fine – just like the population prior to the introduction of garbage trans-fats.

Your body, especially your brain and heart, will thank you (not as much as your taste buds)!

The history of iodine

Considered a topical antimicrobial, iodine has been used in wound care for more than 170 years. However, as far back as the fourth century, iodine-rich foods (seaweed, fish and shellfish) were used to treat sunburn.

Countless studies have determined iodine to be effective against bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses. It can be used to treat both acute and chronic wounds.

Since the 1800s, iodine has been utilized in surgery to prepare the patient’s skin and prevent wound-site infections. Safer mixtures of these first uses are still used in surgery today.

This element is naturally occurring in nature and plays a key role in human bio-functions. You cannot produce thyroid hormones without iodine. Your body cannot produce iodine and must get it from food sources.

There was a time that iodine was a bigger part of the human diet (especially for those who lived near the ocean). Generally speaking, the further inland (further from the ocean), a person lives, the lower the iodine content of food and crops grown there.

There are two common mixtures of iodine: Povidone iodine (PVP-I) which is found in most over-the-counter solutions and Cadexomer iodine which is used in cavity wounds. PVP-1 is sold in many variations and is the most common iodine solution available.

In one study, PVP-1 killed more than 99% of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) cells within 10 seconds of exposure.

Basically, iodine kills germs dead on contact. It’s an outstanding antiseptic! It’s also an excellent natural antibiotic.

However, it’s been ignored by the mainstream medical community (outside of surgical procedures) for decades! Iodine works quickly and effectively. When taken internally, it’s critical to adjust the dose.  Wait… taken internally? Yes, I said that.

Thyroid function

Iodine is raw fuel for your thyroid gland. Your thyroid literally can’t function without it present in adequate amounts. Iodine deficiency can lead to swelling of the thyroid gland (goiter), as it tries to cope. Not getting enough of this essential element can lead to hypothyroid states and all that that entails. Low energy, weight gain, poor hair and nails, heavy periods (women), struggles with fertility, loss of libido and slowed speech.

Brain development

Iodine is crucial to proper brain and neurological growth. Children from very low iodine regions have been shown to develop slower mentally due to untreated congenital hypothyroidism. Its’ very existence shows you the power and importance of this nutrient.

Brain development is dependent on normal thyroid hormone levels. A progressive intellectual deterioration occurs with each passing week in the absence of appropriate thyroxine replacement. Severe developmental and physical delays occur by six months of age. Treatment in infancy will reverse the physical changes, but sadly not the neurological damage.

The development of iodized salt (a “solution” that backfired)

To prevent iodine deficiency, iodine was added to table salt. This was extremely shortsighted since the mainstream medical community has been advocating low-salt diets for nearly 50 years. They forgot that (for most people) this was also a “low iodine diet” since they weren’t getting enough of this nutrient anywhere else.

To make matters worse, the modern food industry adds bromine to bread and most areas in the U.S. add fluoride to your water. They both compete with iodine and increase your risk of deficiency. If you regularly consume ocean foods (marine vegetables and fish), then you’re probably getting enough in your diet. If you don’t, then you probably need to supplement.

Let’s get back to iodine as a natural antibiotic

As early as June 1, 1905, an article was printed in The New York Times about the successful use of iodine for consumption/tuberculosis.

In 1945, J.D. Stone and Sir McFarland Burnet (who later went on to win a Nobel Prize for his Clonal Selection Theory) exposed mice to lethal effects of influenza viral mists. Deaths were prevented by first putting iodine solution in mice snouts prior to placing them in chambers containing influenza viruses.

Iodine penetrates bacterial cell walls. Although its’ precise killing mechanism is uncertain, it’s likely related to hindrance of bacterial protein synthesis, disruption of electron transport, DNA denaturation, and/or membrane destabilization.

A word of caution about iodine consumption

Insane “armchair health advocates” have two very prominent blind spots. One, that everything from conventional medicine is toxic at any dilution. Two, that everything and anything natural can do no harm at any concentration.

These are both blatantly wrong. Opium and hemlock are natural. Too much of either and your heart will stop beating permanently!

Iodine may have dangerous side effects when taken internally. Any substance that impairs electron transport in the cell or has the potential to denature DNA should be used carefully.

So, I advise caution, certainly where there is a history or possibility of tuberculosis. That would include me.  All my farming uncles and aunts and other relatives were at very high risk of TB and we drank plenty of raw milk.  One study found that iodine shakes loose old TB cells. Tuberculosis never really goes away or gets cured. It simply goes into deep hibernation, waiting for the immune system to take a week off work!

With that said, you still need iodine! Even with a history of TB, you need to supplement iodine. The thyroid is your master metabolism gland. Your body can’t function without it.  However, before you use it internally as a natural antibiotic, you must be cautious of dosage.

Administration and doses

Forget the iodized table salt.  It’s not enough (and if it is, you’re probably getting way too much salt).  Seafood of all kinds is better.

Consider, at least from time to time, full-on supplements of iodine. Whether you are hypo-, hyper-, or normal thyroid, it is important for the next few years to take sufficient iodine to lock out the bad stuff.  Radiation exposure from man-made disasters (Fukushima and Chernobyl) will haunt our bodies and health for years to come. Chernobyl was in 1986 and we’re still dealing with the repercussions!

I always recommend Lugol’s Solution Iodine which is 85% distilled water, 10% potassium iodide, and 5% elemental iodine.  The best dose is 10-12mg daily. It takes more than six months to correct an iodine deficiency (be patient).

Some foods hinder iodine utilization so avoid those for a little while. Kale, cabbage, peanuts, soy, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, kohlrabi, and turnips can be added back to your diet once you’re confident that your iodine levels have returned to normal.

You also need adequate selenium (it works intimately with iodine). The selenium found in your thyroid is a higher concentration than anywhere else in the body. Consider 100-200 mcg of selenium daily.  It’s also a powerful cancer-protective.

There’s a lot of false (and deliberately misleading) sunscreen facts on the internet and it’s critical that you know the truth, so you can protect your skin from the harshest rays of the sun.

Before I begin, I want to remind you that your body is encouraged to produce vitamin D when exposed to sunlight. Your body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium, boost your immune system, and so much more. Yes, you can get it through food and supplements (especially if you live in a predominantly cloudy or cold climate).

However, when you can, your best source is regular and responsible exposure to the sun. Burning is terrible! Avoid being out between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. since the ultraviolet rays are harshest then. However, early morning or late afternoon, 15 minutes a day on bare skin or 30 minutes twice a week is sufficient to get what your body needs to produce vital vitamin D. If you have sensitive or very fair skin, you may need to adjust this general recommendation.

Your body receives no vitamin D benefit if your skin is coated in sunscreen. That’s an important fact about sunscreen none of the manufacturers bother to mention.

6 Important Sunscreen Facts

Sunscreen Fact #1.
If you’re worried about skin cancer, you should know that sunscreen doesn’t prevent it. Those people who persistently avoid the sun are the ones who (when they finally venture out) develop skin cancer. The dangerous chemicals found in most commercial sunscreens do nothing but increase your cancer risk!

Sunscreen Fact #2.
The chemicals in most sunscreens – the ones sold on market shelves all over the world have hormone-disrupting properties. They’ve been shown in studies to increase the risk of breast cancer and interfere with male fertility. These products are applied to the skin, which gives them an immediate pathway through your pores into your bloodstream. While manufactures like to gloss over the facts about sunscreens, there is no denying that we’re learning more and more about topically applied toxins.

Sunscreen Fact #3.
The rate of skin cancer has gone up 92% since the sunscreen industry incorporated chemical radiation absorbing compounds into sunscreens. I often quote the fact that New Zealand and Australian farmers who work 365 days a year in what can arguably be described as the most intense sunlight anywhere, and rarely use sunscreens, have the lowest incidence of skin cancer in the western world.

By contrast, their city cousins, who have a much higher incidence of using sunblock creams (at a higher level than any population in the world), have the highest level of skin cancer on earth.

Sunscreen Fact #4.
There’s a big deal made of sun protection factor (SPF) and you’ll see that many supposed experts recommend SPF15 or higher. That’s a waste of your money. Approximately 93% of ultraviolet rays are blocked by SPF15. Higher formulas are far more expensive while only giving you another point or two of protection (even if you went all the way to SPF100).

Sunscreen Fact #5.
Organic sunscreen compounds work differently and you need to choose carefully. There are two common forms of natural or organic sun blocks. They either contain titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. Titanium dioxide is not legitimately natural (it’s a di-oxide, which means it’s a processed and manipulated group of molecules) and should be avoided.

Your best choice is zinc oxide, one of the safest and longest used natural compounds known. Its’ use in skin protection and repair goes back to the Australian Aboriginals and the tribes of Africa. Zinc oxide works as a sunscreen by the simple process of radiation reflection. The zinc molecules do not absorb radiation, but reflect it back out, harmlessly (like a mirror). That’s why zinc oxide looks white (full spectrum sunlight looks pure white to our brain).

Sunscreen Fact #6.
Sunscreens that use zinc but are not white when in sunlight have been further processed. In order to appease consumers more worried about vanity than skin protection, a chemical company developed a non-whitening zinc oxide-based product. They did this by finely grinding the zinc and then subjecting the molecules to a chemical process that cloaked the reflecting ability of the natural zinc with a chemical called triethoxycaprylylsilane.

This is a silicon-based compound and that should put you on the alert (and they don’t have to list it in the ingredients). This nasty sounding chemical reduces the radiation reflecting component of the zinc and makes it into more of a radiation absorbing compound. Just because the FDA says it’s safe means nothing. Avoid these non-whitening zinc oxide sunscreens at all costs!

The natural sunscreen

There’s only one form of safe, natural sunscreen and that is unaltered zinc oxide. This is the only sunscreen component that should ever be used for sunscreen. Any “expert” who tries to sell you anything else is deliberately distorting facts about sunscreen.

A natural sun cream with 8% zinc oxide will provide you with an over 15 SPF (always check your labels). Responsible exposure and a natural zinc oxide sunscreen are your keys to enjoying the sun with far less risk!

Soak up the sun (in moderation)!

When you think about the causes of disease, it can get pretty complex.  Is it your diet?  Your tap water?  Eating non-organic?

To simplify, there are four parts to the risk and development of disease.  I call them the four fundamentals of disease and have written about them extensively in my books and on my website.

All disease or negative health condition springs from one of these four origins.  Understanding them will help you identify your specific fundamentals and act as a sort of road map to helping you avoid or repair them in your daily life.

Genetic causes of disease

This one is often confused with “family history” but they’re not the same thing at all.  When a lot of people in your family get diabetes or heart disease, it isn’t likely that you have organs that aren’t functioning properly.  The most likely explanation is that the eating, exercising, and other lifestyle habits from people inside families is shared.

For example, your grandmother cooked a lot of fried foods or sweets so your mother did that as well and you picked it up in your generation.  Or, your parents weren’t the type to get much exercise so it may not be a priority for you, then your children sort of take on your habits.  This applies to lifestyle behaviors as well such as smoking or alcohol consumption.  Family history is a snapshot of two or three generations, the lives they led, and the effect it had (good or bad) on their health.

Genetic factors are the written code that makes you.  Now, in the past five years, the introduction of epigenetics has proven that nobody is necessarily stuck with bad genes.  DNA varies and is dynamic.  RNA, far from being the silent messenger, is capable of switching DNA on and off (causatively).  These are shocking “new” truths that medical science is struggling to integrate in its mechanistic model.

Over time, learning how to switch these genes on and off will enable us to repair damaged or overactive genes that lead to conditions like Down’s syndrome, Huntington’s Chorea, hemophilia, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.  The future in this field will be spectacular to observe.

Degenerative causes of disease

Basically, the “wear and tear” effect on the human body as it ages, largely due to inflammation and oxidative damage.  Such diseases include osteo-arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, and some cancers.

It is incredible how many of these diseases are preventable entirely, able to be slowed down, and even reversed.  Your body doesn’t have to break down – certainly not as rapidly as the bodies of humans in the modern world break down.

Deficiency causes of disease

This kind of disease is caused by the lack of some mineral or vitamin that your body needs to function properly.  In full-blown form, these tend to be very precise, such as scurvy, pellagra, or beri-beri.

However, many deficiency diseases and conditions are either undiagnosed or misdiagnosed because their symptoms can mimic many other conditions.  There are many undetected sub-clinical deficiency forms because our bodies are straining against negative influences and not getting nearly enough nutritional support.

Environmental causes of disease

This is the largest class group by far.  These are diseases and conditions caused by environmental factors.  When you recognize that viruses, bacteria, and parasites are among these external triggers of disease, it’s easy to understand why this group is the largest and most concerning.

Environmental factors include allergies, toxins, microbes, fatigue, and overload.  There are additional factors such as stress or psychological trauma (such as abuse or neglect), home and family, world tension and financial worry, then you see how big a factor environment is in the formation of disease.

Mainstream medical science views sick people as those who are permanently broken.  They don’t use words like “cure” or “full recovery” often because it seems they don’t truly believe those things are possible.  That’s why they treat the symptoms of disease rather than the true causes of disease.

The good news is that disease caused or triggered by environmental factors gives you far more openings and opportunities to bring about remarkable recoveries.

All disease has one or more of these four fundamentals at work.  It is the areas of overlap that ramp up issues rather quickly.  For example, someone with genetic problems who functions well but is then exposed to an external environmental trigger that brings them down rapidly.  Or a patient sick from a condition with an infectious origin that wouldn’t be too serious if their immune system wasn’t already compromised due to nutritional deficiency.

What must be understood – so you can strengthen your body daily – is that there have to be multiple failures inside the human body before disease can manifest.  Even a cold has to fight through a lot of your body’s defenses to take hold.

Disease only sets in when your natural (and powerful) defense mechanisms are finally overwhelmed.  That’s why you’ll often hear me say that the day you get your first symptom is not the beginning of the disease but the end of a long breakdown process.

It’s a cascade of events or the Cascade Effect.

Don’t step on the money hose!

Those who are treated without surgery enjoy the same survival rates as those who undergo open-heart surgery. Yet many American physicians continue to prescribe surgery immediately upon the appearance of angina, or chest pain.”

These expensive (and useless) surgical options are performed as a first resort. I’m sure you or someone you know has gone through this painful, dangerous, and financially stressful ordeal. In places like the United States (where so many medical “treatments” are based purely on greed), a single heart attack can make a patient bankrupt!

Compare that to IV chelation which takes less than two hours for an infusion, may require 20-30 sessions depending on the patient’s health, and costs approximately $100 per infusion. Depending on where you live and availability to a practitioner, it might cost you $5,000 or less for serious health issues that need to be addressed.

The low cost and benefits of chelation are unacceptable to the mainstream medical complex. Studies have been deliberately falsified to “prove” chelation doesn’t work (such as adding iron to intentionally block it). Doctors have had their license to practice removed and been smeared in places like America, for using this supposedly “unproven” or “scam” therapy.

Trial Assessment of Chelation Therapy

The battle has been very bitter over the years. That’s always the case when substantial profit is involved. There’s no doubt that heart disease and cancer are the biggest cash cows ever known.

The success, safety record, and simplicity of chelation therapy angers cardiologists. They denounce it as worthless and even dangerous. These dispersions are laughable. The conventional medical crowd has had it their own way for so long, what is clearly proven as outright wrong has become or remained acceptable treatment.

A critical government-backed study (funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health), called the Trial Assessment of Chelation Therapy (TACT) was published in 2013. The researchers prove that the benefits of chelation are 18 percent more effective when compared to conventional cardiology treatments and cardiac surgery.

In fact, analysis of two subgroups revealed particular benefit of chelation. Patients with diabetes had a 39 percent reduction in risk and patients with anterior myocardial infarction had a 37 percent reduction in risk. Interestingly, 32 percent of patients in the TACT trial had diabetes, so this was a tough challenge group!

What do critics do when they can no longer use buzzwords like “unproven” or “unscientific” to disparage the benefits of chelation therapies for human health?

They switch tactics and try to pretend it isn’t important.

Some criticisms of the trial have been nothing short of vitriolic. “Shame on JAMA! Shame on NCCAM and the NHBLI for funding this nonsense! And, yes, shame on all the shruggie cardiologists who are apparently unwilling or unable to look beyond the hype,” says one doctor.

Historically, when a finding doesn’t match what’s “popular,” they like to add a caveat that says, “further research” will be necessary. That gives them a way out of awkward results that could directly impact business and the bottom line. Even the lead researcher pulled such a tactic!

“These findings should stimulate further research but are not by themselves sufficient to recommend the routine use of chelation therapy and high-dose vitamins in most patients,” said Dr. Gervasio Lamas, chief of the Columbia University Division of Cardiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Strange that such incredible improvement is not enough to recommend chelation benefits but massaged results that show even a fraction of “improvement” in pharmaceutical or surgical modalities are considered earth-shaking scientific discoveries… because they make more money than average people would ever believe.

Orthodox doctors are administering “approved” therapies with far shakier science than this. If something makes a profit, as little as a 3 percent improvement is considered “scientifically proven to (insert your problem here).”

They’ve even tried to call chelation therapy expensive (as I outlined above, it is not) or extremely difficult to endure. Again, a complete fabrication. Sitting for a couple of hours (while reading or listening to music) to have an IV chelation treatment done is nothing compared to the recovery after a coronary bypass!

Aging Myth #1: Aging is an unchangeable aspect of your genes.

This was once believed by most of the known medical and scientific world. Now we know that epigenetics (the study of changes in organisms caused by modification of gene expression rather than alteration of the genetic code itself), we can switch our genes on and off like a light switch. You can read more about epigenetics here.

Your genetic behavior is not set in stone so just because a bunch of people in your family passed away before the age of 60 doesn’t mean that your outcome will be the same. Even mainstream scientists now recognize the ability to strengthen and improve health at the genetic level.

Aging Myth #2: The thinner you are, the slower you will age.

This was a long-held belief but researchers around the world now realize it is completely false. Being thin or underweight will not mean that you are the healthiest or that you will live longer than those who are average or above average weights.

Surprisingly, those who are slightly overweight (not obese) do best. A Denmark study that lasted for 40 years and involved 100,000 participants discovered that individuals with a BMI (body mass index) between 24-27 percent had longer lifespans. Those who were obese (over 30 percent BMI) or normal (BMI between 18-24 percent) had the shortest lifespans.

Recently, you may have heard the use of “skinny fat” (the technical term is metabolically obese normal weight) describe people who are physically “normal” weight but medically unhealthy. It is critical that you avoid obesity, which is a primary biomarker for most major diseases and conditions. However, a few extra pounds now turns out to be a good thing.

Aging Myth #3: Once you use up your body’s telomeres, your body begins to fail.

Telomeres are little caps on the tips of your chromosomes. The University of Utah describes these fascinating structures as follows, “Telomeres protect our genetic data, make it possible for cells to divide, and hold some secrets to how we age. They keep chromosome ends from fraying and sticking to each other, which would destroy or scramble an organism’s genetic information. Each time a cell divides, the telomeres get shorter. When they get too short, the cell can no longer divide; it becomes inactive or it dies. This shortening process is associated with aging, cancer, and a higher risk of death.”

What most people overlook is the fact that you can regrow telomeres. I go into great detail about telomeres — and how to protect and lengthen them — in my work. I’ll put a link at the bottom if you’re interested in reading more.

Aging Myth #4: Exercise is good and the more exercise you get, the better.

Work hard in the gym or do long, sweaty jogs and you’ll live a long and healthy life. Surprisingly, this isn’t true. While it’s true that living an inactive, sedentary lifestyle is bad for your health and overall mortality — there is such a thing as too much exercise.

Overdoing it can trigger excessive oxidative damage that increases systemic inflammation. Now, you should already know the long-term effects chronic inflammation has on the delicate tissues and organs inside you. It’s one of the most deadly conditions your body can endure and definitely speeds up the signs of aging. Even mainstream media and the medical community is beginning to report about the risks of too much exercise! Exercise, as with most things, should be done regularly but in moderation to slow the signs of aging!

Aging Myth #5: Getting your cholesterol as low as possible will help you live longer.

This is probably one of the most incorrect (and outright dangerous) medical myths out there. This old chestnut has killed more people than just about anything except flu and malaria. Make no mistake about it… your body needs cholesterol! It is used for most hormones, like testosterone, estrogen, and cortisol. It’s also a sort of “wiring insulation” in your brain.

Real science (not science paid for by pharmaceutical companies that have made their fortunes pushing cholesterol lowering medication) makes it clear that people with the lowest cholesterol levels die younger than the rest of us. To blame raised cholesterol for heart damage is like saying the oil warning light caused the damage to a neglected car engine.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is when too much fat builds up and is stored in your liver. If more than 5% of total liver weight is comprised of fat cells, it is a fatty liver.

You cannot survive without your liver and yet, most people aren’t aware of how much stress is put on this hard-working organ day after day.

Alcohol use does not cause NAFLD.  Alcohol was long thought to be the sole cause of a fatty liver. Recent studies have shown that other factors raise your personal risk.

Protect your liver: 8 steps you can take right now

  1. Control alcohol intake. While one or two glasses of wine a day have proven health benefits, consider avoiding hard liquors.
  2. Limit high-carb food. Avoid processed foods, white bread, and anything packed with preservatives or refined sugars. A diet rich in carbohydrates overwhelms your liver as simple carbs are converted into sugars and fat.
  3. Read the labels. Consume flour-based foods in moderation. This includes breakfast cereals, rice, pasta, bread, chips, and fries. Even if the food you eat isn’t made of flour, it’s mixed with or coated with it.
  4. Cut all trans fats. Fast food, deep-fried anything, and what I call “convenience store” snacks are dangerous.   6. Exercise regularly. Even low-impact exercise such as walking or yoga does wonders for your health. If you suffer from chronic pain or can’t jump right into exercise, consider stretching in your chair (there are lots of videos on YouTube).
  7. Control the weight. While even “thin” people have developed fatty liver disease, they are the exception. Obesity is a known risk factor in countless diseases and premature death. Getting your weight down to a healthy level will help your entire body.
  8. Increase protein consumption. Natural proteins such as meat, eggs, nuts, and seafood stabilize your blood sugar, reduce hunger, and aid in weight loss.

Some simple changes can help avoid or reverse fatty liver disease. A healthy liver translates to a cleaner body and that means a longer, stronger life.

If you’ve never been introduced to the benefits of molecular hydrogen, you’re in for an eye-opening (and possibly life-changing) experience…

In the realm of science and medicine, things move rapidly. Small discoveries happen almost daily and huge discoveries can change the course of human health for decades. This was the case within the past fifteen years regarding inflammation.

Antioxidants are found most potently in natural, whole foods. That’s why your daily diet being varied (and nutrient-rich) is so important.

Hydroxyl is not part of the helpful REDOX signaling pathway. In fact, this particular free radical serves no purpose at all other than to damage the tissues inside you day after day. To make matters worse, nothing is immune from a hydroxyl attack.

How do you get rid of the hydroxyl radicals without impacting the REDOX pathway that your body needs to survive? The answer ended up being surprisingly simple.
